Alaafin crowned Gani Adams as the new Aare Ona Kakanfo
The last Onakakanfo was The late business mogul and acclaimed winner of June 12 1993 presidential election, Chief MKO Abiola.Adams will now step into the Shoe of M.K.O who was the last Onakakanfo before Adams, it should be recalled that late Abiola was imprisoned during the reign of Sani Abacha the then Military Head of State, after he Struggled to claim his Presidential election victory on 1993 June.In the year 1988 Abiola became the Aare Ona Kakanfo although it was Ladoke Akintola who was the holder of the title in the year 1962 and 1966.The Alaafin said Adams had been at the vanguard of promoting Yoruba culture and defending the interests of the group.
“The OPC National Coordinator is a focused, committed and pragmatic Nigerian whose unrelented efforts and sense of devotion in the vanguard of making Yoruba traditional religion a reference point in global circles is inspiring, laudable and worthy of emulation,”said the Alaafin.
The King said a press conference would be held later to formally declare Adams the new Aare Ona Kakanfo and the reasons he was so honoured from the list of five persons he had considered.
